This is volume one of the many Hip-Hop debates to come.....
Ok so its almost a given that Nas won the battle with Jay-Z & that Hov will more than likely go down in history as the G.O.A.T., however, what I want to know is who had the better debut album! Illmatic in my opinion is the GREATEST complete Hip-Hop album ever (Above average lyrics, Diversity, Flawless flow, Classic beats, Influence on the genre, Platinum-Certified,etc.), however my opinion doesn't really matter too much due to this thing called objectivity that we bloggers must uphold lol. But nah let me know what you think was hotter, "Reasonable Doubt" or "Illmatic" and why.
(P.S. If you haven't heard both by now, please stop listening to the BS on the radio and do so, then voice your opinion)

I'm glad you posted this one my dude. I'm a diehard fan of both and have both listed in my Top 3 artist of all time. I completely disagree with you on this though...
ReplyDeleteHov's greatness can be translated into his universal appeal, obviously he's the bread winner of the two. Not without saying Nas does have a dedicated fan base; his voice just doesnt seem to carry as far. Now to the albums, I got to give it to Reasonable doubt on this. Seriously 1-15 straight fire, except for Dame Dash's appearance on the intro to Friend or Foe. The two albums both show the differences in each as a person. One a artist, the other an entertainer. Nothing against Nas, nor illmatic but the album was one too short(which also made it hot) and was over the heads of most Mc's today. Honestly I rank Nas ahead of Jay-Z as a artist, but on this particular showdown I gotta give it to Reasonable Doubt. Also that battle was alot closer than you think Chris...
ILLMATIC!
ReplyDeleteYou already know ILLMATIC. Lyrical content was beyond itz time. How could you compare the 2 lmdao.
